Black And White Art Deco Bathroom Tiles

You don't have to stay at the Savoy to enjoy the luxury of Art Deco style.

Turn your own bathroom into an Art Deco haven with a few key touches that evoke this quintessential 1920s style, such as checkerboard floor tiles and white metro wall tiles and the characteristic decorative motifs.

Art Deco epitomized the boom of the roaring 1920s and the bust of the Depression-ridden 1930s. It was the style of the luxury ocean liner (think Titanic) and Hollywood and was characterized by zigzagged and triangular shapes, chevron patterns, stepped forms, sweeping curves and sunburst motifs. Just think of the stylised images of aeroplanes, cars, cruise liners and skyscrapers.

One of the most lavish and enduring looks for any bathroom, Art Deco is simple yet decadent. Our Montalcino black floor tiles and white floor tiles make a beautiful and unique checkerboard floor. Team this with glossy metro wall tiles such as our Marylebone white metro wall tiles and top off with black ornamental decorative border tiles or give a modern twist with our Synergy Mosaic tile.

For sanitary ware choose the most decorative you can find, preferably with stepped forms or sweeping curves incorporated into the design. Or if you're going for the modern twist choose very simple but quality sanitary ware.

Vintage style taps and other furnishings are relatively easy to come by. Go for the more geometric and angular shapes. Use plenty of shiny surfaces including mirrored, glass surfaces and chrome with symmetrical shapes.

The wall light featuring a woman figures holding the ball of the lamp on outstretched arms is a typical art deco style decoration, so if you can find one, all the better. Otherwise go for similar styles of wall light in etched, sandblasted or enamelled glass. Nature motif light features with shells, sunrises or flowers can work well too.

The starkness of the black and white wall and floor tiles may need to be softened a little so paint walls in a warmer shade such as a muted green to avoid the room looking too cold. If using fabrics, stick to plain or geometric fabrics and choose strong, streamlined shapes for furniture.
